In February, Riversdown Director Caroline Lewis participated in a 500km journey by bicycle from Cambodia to Laos, via Thailand. The trip was organised by the charity CARE International, to raise awareness and funds for its microfinancing initiative (see lendwithcare.org).

A particularly special moment for Caroline along this journey, was the opportunity to visit the temple in Angkor Wat. Home to the breath-taking stone wall carvings, a copy of which she has grown up with on the walls of the Riversdown dining room. Seeing how this magnificent site was connected to Riversdown in a small but significant way is something she will always remember.

 

Reflecting on the experience, she goes on to say, “One of the highlights of the trip was a day spent visiting entrepreneurs that have been able to set up their own businesses as a result of receiving a loan through CARE’s microfinance initiative. It was great to hear about their experiences first hand and we were able to ask questions through an interpreter.”
