David Sullivan, our much-loved trainer and Winchester guide, has a new stop on his tour of Winchester on Wednesday afternoons.  A statue of the author, Jane Austen, has recently been revealed to commemorate the 250th anniversary of her birth.  Martin Jennings, one of the UK’s leading figurative sculptors, studied the available evidence to produce a likeness as there are no uncontested portraits of the writer.  His overall conception, reflected in her expression and posture, is to emphasise her moral vision and the strength of her literary legacy.  It stands close to the house where she died and Winchester Cathedral, where she is buried.
