In November 2025, Caroline and Rodrigo will be cycling from Vietnam to Cambodia to raise money for charity!

Having long had an interest in the concept of ‘micro-finance,’ a system of providing small loans to people who are typically excluded from traditional banking, I was interested to see an advertisement about a project set up by CARE International to support individuals (often women) and groups living in developing countries who were keen to start their own businesses but were not able to get finance from banks.

This initiative, Lendwithcare, proved to be an accessible way to support such entrepreneurs, by lending often small amounts of money, which is then repaid in instalments once the business is making a profit. There is a website with details of individuals and groups who are looking for funding, together with details of the businesses they would like to set up. I have found it very rewarding to know that I am making a difference to people’s lives, by helping them to realise their ambitions.

In February 2024, I joined a group of fellow Lendwithcare supporters on a cycling trip in Cambodia and Thailand which provided the opportunity to meet entrepreneurs that had been able to set up businesses thanks to micro-loans. This November, Rodrigo will be joining me on a 500km ride along the Mekong River Valley, to raise funds for CARE’s poverty fighting projects and to meet more entrepreneurs who have set up businesses thanks to support from Lendwithcare, which will be truly inspiring.

Our target is to raise £8,000 for this life-changing charity.  It would be great if you would consider supporting us by giving a donation to help us meet this target – even just £20 could make a huge difference!  Please follow this link to make a donation and find out more about this incredible charity.  Thank you!   https://www.justgiving.com/page/caroline-lewis-1735490127504
